5 things we absolutely do not do in winter in Palm Springs
Anytime someone asks what winter is like in Palm Springs, I tell them:It’s cheating. We’re basically living in a weather paradise.
Growing up in Southern California and being a frequent visitor to the desert, I never knew the “real winter struggle.”No shoveling snow.
No frozen toes.
No scraping ice off the car at 6am while questioning every life choice.

Our idea of winter?A crisp 55° morning is followed by a 75° afternoon, during which everyone suddenly remembers that they own shorts.

As a proud Palm Springs local, here are five things we absolutely do not do in the winter:
1️⃣ Shovel snow. Our version of winter chores is showing up to an 8am pickleball match and pretending we’re not competitive.
2️⃣ Complain about the “cold.”We’ll say, “OMG, it’s freezing!” at 58°…and then be in tank tops by lunch. It’s a whole ecosystem of drama and denial.
3️⃣ Stay inside.Nope. Winter is our Super Bowl. We’re outside walking the dogs, golfing, working in our gardens, hiking, chasing sunsets, or riding around in golf carts like we own the place (because… well… we kinda do).
4️⃣ Let weather stop us.Rain? Maybe once every 4 months.Wind? Okay, that one’s real—but we still go to happy hour.Winter here is basically a year-round permission slip to “live your best outdoor life.”
5️⃣ Stay calm when it snows on the mountains.Let one inch of snow hit the San Jacintos, and suddenly the entire Coachella Valley becomes National Geographic photographers.

And honestly? That’s the dream.Winter in Palm Springs is unbeatable—our friends in Canada, the Midwest, and the East Coast are defrosting windshields while we’re debating which patio to have lunch on.

It’s no secret that Palm Springs is one of the best snowbird destinations in the country, especially for people looking to own a second home. With over 300 days of sunshine, world-class golf, stunning mountain views, vibrant arts and culture, endless outdoor recreation, and a relaxed resort-style pace of life, it’s everything winter should be. Snowbirds love Palm Springs for its easy airport access, low-maintenance desert landscaping, strong short-term and seasonal rental demand, and diverse housing options—from mid-century modern icons to gated 55+ communities and luxury condos.
