    Where to find Help and How to Help Those Affected by the Los Angeles County Fires

    The recent fires in Los Angeles County have been devastating, leaving many residents displaced and in need of assistance. Many of our friends, family and clients of The Paul Kaplan Group have been affected by this tragedy.  If you or someone you know has been affected by the fires, or if you're looking for ways to help, this post provides resources and information on where to go for help and how to donate.   

     

     Palm Springs Hospitality Association Offers Special Rates for Fire Victims 

     

    The City of Palm Springs and their hospitality partners stand in solidarity with the residents of Los Angeles County dealing with unimaginable tragedy due to devastating wildfires that have left so many without shelter. With this in mind, the City’s hospitality community is offering Palm Springs hotel rooms at special rates for those affected.“On behalf of the Palm Springs Hospitality Association, I would like to extend our desire to be a safe haven for as many evacuees as possible,” said Celeste M. Brackley, PSHA Board Member and Vice Chair PS Resorts. “The hospitality community is coming together to help evacuees find some comfort at a discounted rate in the hopes of being good neighbors.     Airbnb.org offers temporary housing to people impacted by Los Angeles wildfires   

    •  Airbnb.org  is providing free, temporary housing for people who have been displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires.
    • The organization has partnered with 211 LA to connect people with a free place to stay.

    Currently, Airbnb.org is partnering with the 211 LA who is identifying residents in need of temporary housing and helping to connect them to Airbnb.org stays. They are specifically focused on residents who have either lost their home or been forced to evacuate in the Altadena, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Monica and Sylmar areas.  Impacted residents can request assistance for temporary housing support from Airbnb.org by  filling out this intake form with 211 LA. 

     Rental Properties in the Palm Springs area 

    In response to the devastating LA County Wildfires, the Paul Kaplan Group is committed to assisting those in need of housing during this challenging time. While we don’t manage rental properties directly,  we’ve compiled a list of currently available rental homes  in the area. If you or someone you know is searching for temporary or long-term housing, please reach out to us. We’ll connect you with the listing agents of these properties, providing the information you need to explore these options. Together, we can help our community rebuild and recover.

     Where to Find Additional Assistance 

    Several organizations are working tirelessly to provide aid to those affected by the fires. Here are some key resources:   

    • American Red Cross: The Red Cross is providing shelter, food, emotional support, and health services to displaced residents. You can find information on shelters and services on their website (redcross.org) or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 contribution.   
    •  Los Angeles County Emergency Management Department: This department coordinates disaster response and recovery efforts in the county. Their website (ready.lacounty.gov) offers valuable information and resources for those affected by emergencies.   
    •  Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA): FEMA provides assistance to individuals and families affected by disasters. You can apply for assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov. Mental Health Support: The trauma of experiencing a fire can have a significant impact on mental health. If you or someone you know needs mental health support, contact the Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990Support First Responders/LAFD  The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation is running a campaign to provide critical support for the LAFD firefighters as they work tirelessly to save lives and protect property during these devastating wildfires.  Donations to this campaign will directly help equip firefighters with essential tools and supplies, including:
    • Emergency Fire Shelters: Lightweight, compact shelters that protect firefighters when they become overrun by flames, reflecting radiant heat and providing breathable air.
    • Hydration Backpacks: Designed to carry three quarts of water, these backpacks keep firefighters hydrated during grueling 12-hour shifts on the fire line.
    • Wildland Brush Tools: Durable, specialized tools that help crews clear brush, cut tree limbs, and create firebreaks to slow the spread of wildfires.Your contribution can make a real difference in ensuring our local heroes have the resources they need to stay safe and effective on the front lines.  You can donate directly to the LAFD Foundation here!   Donation Drop-Offs and VolunteeringMany local schools, YMCAs, and community centers have partnered with the American Red Cross to collect donations for those affected by the wildfires. They are accepting donations including water, food items, bread, peanut butter, jam, fruits, blankets, and emergency supplies. The Koreatown and Anderson Munger YMCAs have requested volunteer help to transport goods. Keep up with them on Instagram at @amfymca_ktown for the latest needs.The LA Regional Food Bank is also accepting food donations and volunteers.Below is a list of current drop-off locations.📍 Locations:
